Hopton Commemorates 80th Anniversary of D-Day

On Thursday 6th June, the Hopton CofE Primary Academy school family joined together with the Parish Council and residents from Ritson Lodge Care Home to remember the extraordinary efforts of Allied troops on D-Day.
The commemorative event, organised by Kevin Lee of Hopton Parish Council, marked the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the beginning of the Battle of Normandy. During Collective Worship, the pupils heard how on the beaches of Normandy, in the seas beyond and in the skies overhead, our Armed Forces carried out their duty with a humbling sense of resolve and determination: values so characteristic of that remarkable wartime generation.
The pupils had the opportunity to visit a pop-up museum with artefacts from the era. They heard the individual stories of courage, resilience and solidarity from local residents of Hopton which could not fail to move each of us, to inspire us, and to remind us of what we owe to that great generation. In the afternoon, Year 6 pupils visited the residents of Ritson Lodge Care home. They enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea and reflected on the beginning and end of the Second World War through music and performance.
To mark the occasion, the Parish Council kindly presented the school with a copy of Michael Morpurgo’s latest book which on the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, tells a new story about this milestone moment in British history.
