Dereham Junior and Barclay's Girls Football Schools Partnership Host the Schools Biggest Ever Girls Football Session for International Women's Day
March 15, 2024
On Friday 8th March, International Women’s day, Mr. Allott (PE lead) organised Dereham Junior school’s biggest ever girl’s football session in association with Barclays Girls Football Schools Partnerships and the FA’s campaign for equality in football – #LetGirlsPlay #hergametoo.
The plan was to get as many girls as possible – along with thousands of other schools across the country – to sign up and play football during the lunch hour on the day, taking part in one of four matches which organised the girls into teams within each year group.
By the last count, 134 girls signed up and took part which is fantastic – just over 60% of girls across the whole school!
The day couldn’t run as smoothly as it did without the support of fellow teachers – Mrs. Stuart-Sheppard and Mr. Jenkinson – and a team of enthusiastic Year 6 boys who did a fantastic job either refereeing the matches or coaching the teams from the sidelines.
The girls had a fantastic time and we look forward to supporting girls football on hopefully a much larger scale at our school in the near future.
